Joint Press Conference by Justice Party and People Party Floor Leaders Urging 'Ssangteukgeom' Special Investigation...
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] On the 27th, the Justice Party and the People’s Party urged the introduction of a 'dual special prosecutor' to investigate allegations against Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party candidate, and Yoon Seok-youl, the People Power Party candidate.
On the morning of the same day, Bae Jin-kyo, floor leader of the Justice Party, and Kwon Eun-hee, floor leader of the People’s Party, delivered a letter urging a permanent special prosecutor to the Deputy Minister of Justice in front of the Ministry of Justice building in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, and read a press conference statement calling for the special prosecutor.
In the statement, they said, "Unless the allegations involving the presidential candidates are properly investigated, this presidential election will inevitably become the worst in history, forcing the public to vote for candidates with criminal suspicions," adding, "The Justice Party and the People’s Party demand the introduction of a dual special prosecutor within this year to alleviate the public’s concerns, and from today, we will begin joint actions."
They pointed out, "The two major parties are still shifting responsibility to each other, and as of this moment, negotiations for the special prosecutor have not progressed even an inch," and added, "The two parties should explain to the public why they are still hesitant to implement the dual special prosecutor, as if they have much to hide."
They further stated, "The dual special prosecutor must be conducted within this year," and "Only if it is conducted within this year can at least some truth be revealed by February 12, before the registration of candidates for the 20th presidential election."
