Gangwon-do to Implement 'Omicron Variant Virus Confirmatory Testing' Starting from the 30th
Omicron Variant Virus Confirmed Detectable Within 24 Hours
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] The Gangwon Provincial Institute of Health and Environment will conduct confirmatory tests for the COVID-19 Omicron variant starting from the 30th, amid concerns over the increase in COVID-19 cases caused by the Omicron variant in the region.
According to the Provincial Institute of Health and Environment on the 27th, confirmatory tests are currently being conducted on specimens confirmed positive for COVID-19 for the four major variants (Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta).
Specimens suspected of being the Omicron variant, for which the major variants are not detected, are being sent to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency for additional analysis.
Previously, it took about three days to complete confirmatory testing at the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency after preliminary testing at the institute, but by conducting confirmatory tests for the Omicron variant at the institute, rapid confirmation within 24 hours is now possible.
