View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] Song Young-gil, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on the 24th that “the Democratic Party respects this decision” regarding the special pardon of former President Park Geun-hye.
In his opening remarks at the Election Countermeasures Committee headquarters meeting held at the party office in Yeouido, Seoul, Song said, “This pardon, decided after President Moon Jae-in’s careful consideration process, is the president’s inherent constitutional authority.”
Earlier, Park Beom-gye, Minister of Justice, held a briefing at the Government Seoul Office and announced the special pardon of former President Park.

However, the Democratic Party denied reports that the Blue House and the party had discussed the pardon issue of former President Park in advance. After the meeting, Song told reporters, “Since I injured my leg on the 8th, I have not met with any Blue House officials. I have not even had a phone call.”
