54 Confirmed Cases on the 23rd in Gwangju at Schools, Daycares, and Nursing Hospitals
'Scattered Infections' Occurring in Various Places Including Government Agencies, Medium-sized Hospitals, and Schools
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Sporadic COVID-19 infections are continuing in schools, daycare centers, and nursing hospitals in the Gwangju area.
According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 24th, 54 people tested positive for COVID-19 the previous day and were classified as confirmed cases number 7431 to 7484 in Gwangju.
At a nursing hospital in Buk-gu where a cluster infection was confirmed, 11 additional cases were added during the cohort isolation, increasing the total to 38.
Also, in Gwangju, 8 confirmed cases occurred at elementary schools in Nam-gu and Gwangsan-gu, daycare centers, an academy in Seo-gu, and a middle school located in Buk-gu.
The quarantine authorities set up temporary screening clinics at the affected schools and daycare centers and conducted comprehensive testing of faculty and students.
One nurse from a medium-sized hospital and one government official from a national agency also tested positive for COVID-19, prompting additional testing and on-site risk assessments targeting their workplace colleagues.
It was confirmed that they tested positive after visiting a restaurant in Seo-gu on the 19th, which had been previously visited by an existing confirmed case.
Five people also tested positive at a sauna in Nam-gu used by confirmed cases from Jeonnam.
Other confirmed cases were mostly family members, acquaintances, or related to other regions.
