Wife Suspected of 'Affair' Killed... "I Will Give All My Assets to Wife's Family"
"Wife Leaves Work One Hour Earlier Than She Said"
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] A man in his 60s, who was on trial for killing his wife during a separation after suspecting her of infidelity and having an argument, pleaded for leniency, stating he would give his remaining assets to the victim's family.
The 15th Criminal Division of the Incheon District Court (Presiding Judge Lee Gyu-hoon) announced on the 23rd that it had postponed the sentencing trial of Mr. A (65), who was detained and indicted on charges of murder. The court delayed the sentencing to the 11th of next month after Mr. A expressed his intention to reach a settlement with the victim’s family.
Earlier, Mr. A was detained and indicted on charges of strangling his wife, Mrs. B (59), to death around 1:30 a.m. on August 12 at an apartment in Seo-gu, Incheon.
After the crime, he voluntarily reported to 112, saying, "I killed my wife." It was revealed that the day before the incident, he went to Mrs. B’s workplace and had an argument suspecting her of infidelity.
In police investigations, he stated, "My wife said she would leave work at 9 p.m., but when I went to her workplace, I saw her leaving an hour early," and "We argued about this at the apartment, and I strangled her, but I did not intend to kill her."
Mr. A remarried Mrs. B about ten years ago, but they had been separated for several years and reportedly met once or twice a week.
Through reference materials recently submitted to the court, Mr. A stated, "I will give my remaining assets to the victim’s family," and "I have already paid 20 million won to Mrs. B’s sister as compensation for helping to reach a settlement with the legal heirs of the victim."
The court postponed the sentencing, saying, "It is necessary to see how efforts are being made to reach a settlement."
