Chungnam Autonomous Police, 'Integrated Support' for Families in Crisis... Focus on Preventing Recurrence of Domestic Violence
[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Chungnam Autonomous Police Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Committee) is launching integrated support for families in crisis in the region.
The Committee announced on the 23rd that it will pilot the ‘Chungnam-type Integrated Support System for Families in Crisis’ next year to prevent recurrence of crises in families.
The integrated support for families in crisis is a system where the police, local governments, and specialized counseling centers collaborate to strengthen initial responses to domestic violence reports, prevent recurrence of domestic violence, and reinforce the community safety net.
The Committee established the integrated support system based on the judgment that integrated support is necessary for families where domestic violence has been reported two or more times, and where domestic violence caused by drinking, childcare, infidelity, or economic reasons leads to divorce, child abuse, running away from home, or suicide, causing harm to the affected families.
The number of families at risk of recurring domestic violence in the province increased from 263 families as of October last year to 538 families as of October this year, with a repeat report rate of 7.9%.
The integrated support system will be piloted from January to June next year at two domestic violence counseling centers in Cheonan and one in Hongseong, and after analyzing the results and making improvements, it is scheduled to be fully implemented from July.
This system will involve joint responses by professional counselors, abuse prevention police officers at police stations, and integrated case managers from city and county offices, as well as strengthened monitoring roles utilizing local activists.
