[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Sporadic COVID-19 infections are continuing in public institutions, entertainment facilities, and nursing hospitals in the Gwangju area.
According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 23rd, 66 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Gwangju the previous day and were classified as confirmed cases number 7365 to 7430 in Gwangju.
There were 5 cases related to a public institution located in Dong-gu, 1 related to a middle school in Gwangsan-gu, 1 related to manufacturing in Gwangsan-gu, 2 related to welfare facilities in Nam-gu, 1 related to a middle school in Buk-gu, 1 related to a daycare center in Buk-gu, 1 related to a nursing hospital in Buk-gu, 9 related to confirmed cases from other cities and provinces, 21 related to previously confirmed cases, and 24 under investigation.
Five additional cases related to the public institution in Dong-gu were confirmed, bringing the cumulative total to 29 cases.
Among them, 9 are confirmed Omicron variant cases.
Gwangju Omicron cases were confirmed to have had contact at the same time on the 11th at a pub in Nam-gu with an Omicron case from Hampyeong.
Two cases related to middle schools in Gwangsan-gu and Buk-gu are family members and acquaintances of existing confirmed cases; they tested positive either before release from quarantine or after symptoms appeared during quarantine.
One case related to manufacturing in Gwangsan-gu tested positive in a pre-release test. The number of confirmed cases related to manufacturing has increased to 13.
Two additional cases related to welfare facilities in Nam-gu were confirmed; all were diagnosed during quarantine.
Following a cluster infection at a nursing hospital in Buk-gu on the 21st, one more staff member was confirmed positive, increasing the total to 34 cases.
Confirmed cases from other cities and provinces are acquaintances or family members of confirmed cases residing in Jeollanam-do, Seoul, and Jeonju areas.
Among the 22 cases under investigation, 2 were confirmed through proactive testing at entertainment facilities in Seo-gu and Buk-gu, respectively.
The remaining confirmed cases include construction site workers and elementary school staff; health authorities are conducting on-site evaluations.
Additionally, most confirmed cases related to previously confirmed patients were infections among family members and acquaintances.
