BTS Ranks No.1 in Japan's Oricon Annual Album Chart... First Overseas Group to Achieve This
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The group BTS has reached the top of the Oricon Chart's 'Annual Ranking' as the first overseas group with their Japanese best album 'BTS, THE BEST.'
According to Oricon's 'Annual Ranking 2021' announced on the 22nd, 'BTS, THE BEST' ranked first in the 'Album Ranking' category of 'Sales by Work' with sales of 993,000 copies (counting period from December 28, 2020, to December 20, 2021). This is the first time in Oricon history for an overseas group, and the first time in 37 years since Michael Jackson ('Thriller') in 1984 that an overseas artist has topped the annual album category.
Oricon stated, "'BTS, THE BEST' debuted at number one on the 'Weekly Album Ranking' (issue dated June 28) with first-week sales of 782,000 copies, setting a new record for the highest first-week sales by an overseas male artist."

Released in June, 'BTS, THE BEST' is a compilation album that includes singles and album tracks released by BTS in Japan over four years since 2017. It features 23 tracks including 'Film out,' completed in collaboration with the Japanese rock band back number, 'Dynamite,' which set the shortest period record for 400 million cumulative streams on Oricon's 'Streaming Ranking,' the original Japanese songs 'Your eyes tell' and 'Crystal Snow,' as well as Japanese versions of 'Blood Sweat & Tears,' 'FAKE LOVE,' 'IDOL,' 'MIC Drop,' and 'ON.'
