Kim Jin-tae, chairman of the People Power Party's 'Lee Jae-myung Corruption National Verification Special Committee' (Chuncheon Gap District Party Committee Chairman), repeatedly called for a 'special prosecutor.'
On the 22nd, Special Committee Chairman Kim stated on SNS, "Kim Moon-gi, Director at Seongnam Urban Development Corporation involved in the Daejang-dong case, suddenly passed away," adding, "This is not the first time an important witness or suspect has died. It is said to be the 23rd case since the Moon Jae-in administration. Recently, Yoo Han-gi was one, as well as Assemblyman Roh Hoe-chan and Representative Son Hye-won's younger brother. Why do important people always disappear?" expressing ongoing suspicion.
He continued, "The core of the Daejang-dong case is who deleted the clause on the recovery of excess profits, which created the 'Hwacheon Daeyu monopoly.' The late Director Kim Moon-gi reportedly opposed that deletion but it was eventually removed by the 'higher-ups,' so now there are hardly any people left who can tell the truth," emphasizing the inevitability of a special prosecutor.
He further stressed, "The candidate Lee Jae-myung and Jeong Jin-sang must be investigated and the truth revealed, but since the prosecution is not conducting investigations and is stalling, innocent people keep dying. We do not know who will suffer misfortune next, so a special prosecutor must be appointed immediately," reiterating his call.
Special Committee Chairman Kim particularly stated, "The prosecution is responsible for managing the custody of investigation targets, and if a major suspect is in an unstable condition, they should have made an emergency arrest to prevent accidents," adding, "Today (22nd), the Lee Jae-myung Special Committee plans to urgently visit the Central District Prosecutors' Office to demand answers."
Meanwhile, the deceased Director Kim was known as the person who oversaw the practical work of the Daejang-dong development project, which has been embroiled in allegations of development favors.
In particular, he was investigated by both the prosecution and police regarding the circumstances under which the clause requiring the recovery of 'excess profits' was deleted from the agreement.
Amid this, after receiving notification from the Seongnam Urban Development Corporation's Audit Office that a 'severe disciplinary action' had been decided, he was found dead in his office on the 21st.
The bereaved family claims that "the company bears responsibility" for Director Kim's death.
