Travel Adventurer Kim Sung-tae to Release 'Crazy About the Himalayas' and Hold Photo Exhibition Next Month
Kim Sung-tae, an off-the-beaten-path traveler and documentary photographer, will publish his book Himalaya-e Michida (Crazy About the Himalayas) on January 1st next year. Along with the book release, a publication celebration and photo exhibition will be held from January 4th to 11th at Space22 Gallery in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. About 50 works showcasing the majestic, awe-inspiring, and mysterious landscapes of various parts of the Himalayas, as well as the pristine and primitive traditional lives of high-altitude nomads, will be introduced.
The author spent over 30 years working for daily newspapers and, after retirement, is living a second life as an off-the-beaten-path traveler who visits remote corners around the world to pursue photography. As a member of the socially conscious photography group “Kkumkkot Factory,” he actively participates in various photographic documentation projects and individual and group exhibitions.
The second book, Himalaya-e Michida, follows his first publication in 2015, Tibet-e Michida (Crazy About Tibet), and is the second installment in his publishing project showcasing remote areas around the world that he has visited. It introduces the deep, remote corners of the Himalayas through text and photos, including Pakistan’s K2, Nanga Parbat, the last hidden remote Dolpo, and Everest.

Drawing on his long experience as a journalist, the author conveys the vibrant and mysterious scenery of the Himalayas with insight, writing skills, and the perspective of a photographer in a vivid and three-dimensional way. He also presents the primitive lifestyle of nomads who have preserved ancient traditions as if time has stopped long ago, the reality of mysterious Tibetan Buddhism, and the heartfelt stories of high-altitude Sherpas and porters with a strong sense of presence.
