According to Gyeonggi Province on the 22nd, the 'Southeast Axis Metropolitan Bicycle Road Network' project aims to connect a total of 26.3 km of previously disconnected bicycle roads between Yongin, Icheon, and Yeoju, with completion targeted for next year.
The sections include 20.9 km from Samga-dong, Cheoin-gu, Yongin City to the Jangamcheon confluence point in Hobeop-myeon, Icheon City, and 5.4 km from Hadari, Heungcheon-myeon to Ipoli, Geumsa-myeon in Yeoju City.
The total project cost is approximately 8.8 billion KRW, with the province and the respective cities/counties (Yongin, Icheon, Yeoju) investing in a 30:70 ratio for construction expenses. The province oversees the design, while the construction is carried out by the respective cities/counties.
The province completed the route design at the end of August and disbursed provincial subsidies to the respective cities/counties by the end of September. The contractor selection process is currently underway, and construction will begin sequentially in areas that have completed preparations.
In addition to connecting local living bicycle roads between regions, the project is expected to serve as a representative 'bicycle culture hub' in the southeast area, also providing recreational functions.
