Oh Byung-kwon Acting Director Inspects Site of 'Pyeongtaek Life Treatment Center' Ahead of Opening
[Asia Economy (Pyeongtaek) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Oh Byeong-kwon, Acting Governor of Gyeonggi Province, visited the COVID-19 residential treatment center located in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province on the 21st to inspect the site and encourage the staff.
Acting Governor Oh said, "I repeatedly thank the medical staff and workers who are struggling on the front lines of quarantine despite the increasingly cold weather," and added, "We will not hesitate or waver in protecting the lives and safety of the residents. I ask you all to stay strong a little longer while thinking about the safety of the residents."
The Pyeongtaek residential treatment center, which is preparing to open, has a total of 476 rooms and can accommodate about 800 people. Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center Pocheon Hospital has been designated as the dedicated hospital and will begin operations. A total of 186 people, including administrative support and medical staff, will work there.
This large-scale residential treatment center opening is a proactive measure by Gyeonggi Province amid the recent situation where the intensive care unit bed occupancy rate in the metropolitan area is approaching 90%, and the number of people waiting for residential treatment center allocation is increasing, putting a strain on the medical system.
The province plans to closely operate a cooperative system among the residential treatment centers, hospitals, and public health centers, as patients admitted to the residential treatment centers must be immediately transferred to hospitals if their severity worsens.
