Pro Gaming Team Afreeca Freecs, New Start as 'Gwangdong Freecs'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] AfreecaTV announced on the 21st that its professional gaming team, 'Afreeca Freecs,' has signed a naming sponsorship agreement with Kwangdong Pharmaceutical and will be active under the name ‘Kwangdong Freecs’ starting next year.
The signing ceremony held at Afreeca Colosseum inside Lotte World, Seoul, was attended by Jung Chanyong, CEO of AfreecaTV, Chae Jungwon, CEO of Afreeca Freecs, and Choi Sungwon, CEO of Kwangdong Pharmaceutical.
According to the agreement, Afreeca Freecs will operate under the team name Kwangdong Freecs for the next three years starting from the 2022 Spring season. The Kwangdong Pharmaceutical brand logo will be displayed on the players' uniforms and in the stadium, and Kwangdong Pharmaceutical’s flagship products will be provided to the players to maintain their performance and health.
They will also actively communicate with MZ generation fans who enjoy e-sports. To this end, the two companies plan to collaborate on content production and various activities.

Meanwhile, Afreeca Freecs is a domestic e-sports team founded by AfreecaTV in 2016. It operates multiple teams including the LCK (League of Legends Championship Korea) team composed of professional gamers such as ‘Teddy’ and ‘Kiin,’ as well as PUBG and KARTRIDER teams. The team has a record of being the runner-up in the 2018 LCK Spring, qualifying for the 2018 LoL World Championship, and winning the 2019 KeSPA Cup.
