On the 21st, the county announced that it is establishing a "Sewer Maintenance Priority Management Area Improvement Plan" for the area around Hakgyo-myeon and Wolya-myeon, which is currently awaiting approval from the Ministry of Environment.
The areas of Hakgyo-myeon and Wolya-myeon suffer from frequent flooding every year during heavy summer rains due to insufficient sewer pipe capacity and rising river water levels, which hinder smooth drainage.
Accordingly, the county has significantly improved the sewer maintenance measures to prevent flooding even during heavy rainfalls with a 50-year frequency (81.3mm/h), and is preparing fundamental measures to minimize flood damage caused by abnormal rainfall due to climate change.
The county plans to invest 36.6 billion KRW (25.6 billion KRW from the national government) by 2024 to install two rainwater pumping stations, 4.5 km of pipelines, and 234 rainwater inlets in the Hakgyo-myeon area. In Wolya-myeon, 4.9 km of pipelines and 182 rainwater inlets will be installed to secure smooth drainage capacity.
