View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] CU announced on the 21st that the duty-free products introduced through the membership application (app) Pocket CU, in collaboration with Hyundai Department Store Duty Free, continue to sell out.
Since last month, CU has prepared a special exhibition at the Pocket CU luxury hall where customers can purchase over 50 domestic duty-free products from famous luxury brands such as Givenchy, Mulberry, and Moschino at prices discounted up to 70% off the regular price. These products have gone through normal import customs clearance procedures, allowing domestic residents without plans to travel abroad to purchase them unconditionally, which has gained great popularity.
On the 24th of last month, the number of Pocket CU users accessing the app at 4 PM, the opening time of the special exhibition, surged by 293.9% compared to the same time the previous week. The most popular product was UGG's Dakota Moccasin, which sold out within an hour of the sales start. This winter's popular steady seller was released at a 50% discount off the regular price, leading to an online rush to purchase.
CU will launch the second round of sales starting on the 22nd. The products to be released this time include over 50 items such as clothing, bags, and wallets from brands like Marc Jacobs, available at less than half the regular price. Customers who purchase second-round products will also receive special reward points up to 140,000 KRW usable at Hyundai Department Store Duty Free online, and their membership level will be upgraded to the highest tier. Additionally, Pocket CU members who visit the offline Hyundai Department Store Duty Free can enjoy up to a 15% discount until the 31st of next month.
