View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] A high school student who stole cars across the country and used them to engage in illegal racing has been arrested.
The Cheonan Seobuk Police Station in Chungnam announced on the 20th that they have arrested and are investigating a 16-year-old boy identified as A on charges of habitual theft and other offenses.
A is accused of stealing a total of three passenger cars, one each day, between the evenings of the 11th and 13th in residential areas of Seobuk-gu, Cheonan-si, Chungnam.
It was found that A entered vehicles that were left unlocked and started the engine using the smart keys that the owners had kept inside the cars.
According to the police investigation, over the past several months, A committed crimes including stealing nine luxury passenger cars such as the Genesis G90 and one motorcycle in locations including Seoul, Daejeon, Suwon, Hwaseong, Anyang, Anseong, Pyeongtaek in Gyeonggi Province, Nonsan in Chungnam, Iksan in Jeonbuk, and Pohang in Gyeongbuk, as well as stealing valuables inside the cars 15 times.
