Gwangju Nam-gu, Winter Vacation Reading Class Participants Recruitment
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju (District Mayor Kim Byung-nae) announced on the 20th that it is recruiting participants for winter reading classes for elementary school students in the district during the winter vacation at three district-run libraries, including the Youth Library.
First, the Nam-gu Youth Library will operate a winter reading class titled "The World of Language, Would You Like to Participate in a Game?" for 3rd and 4th grade elementary school students for four days from January 18 to 21 next year.
Through language play such as the rules of word combination, students can develop social skills and learn proper language usage. Registration for the reading class starts on the 20th, and the number of participants is limited to the first 30 applicants.
At the Pureungil Library, a program called "Let's Travel the World Through Books!" will be held for four days from January 25 to 28 next year. It is targeted at 1st and 2nd grade elementary school students, and registration begins on January 4, with a limit of 20 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.
This program helps students understand the customs of various countries through picture books containing the cultures of different nations, and indirectly experience the world's fascinating natural environments through puzzle solving, thereby developing imagination and creativity.
The Cultural Information Library will offer an English learning program.
Operating for four days from January 18 to 21 next year under the theme "Play with picture books," it will recruit 20 1st and 2nd grade elementary school students on a first-come, first-served basis starting January 4. This program aims to foster interest in English through reading English picture books.

A Nam-gu official said, "The district-run libraries' winter reading classes are very popular and tend to fill up quickly on a first-come, first-served basis. Since the recruitment periods differ by library, special attention is required," adding, "We urge applicants to apply promptly on the scheduled dates."
