[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Seo Dong-yong, Member of the National Assembly (The Democratic Party of Korea, Jeonnam Suncheon-si, Gwangyang-si, Gokseong-gun, Gurye-gun (Eul)), welcomed the selection of Jeonnam Gwangyang-si and Gokseong-gun as recognized urban regeneration projects in the ‘2021 3rd Urban Regeneration New Deal New Projects’ announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 17th.
The ‘Recognized Urban Regeneration Project’ is a project implemented to supply convenience facilities linked to urban regeneration in areas where urban regeneration activation plans have not been established, in order to accelerate project speed and increase residents’ perception.
The urban regeneration project in Geumho-dong, Gwangyang-si, Jeonnam, is named ‘From Up(Town) to Up(town), Geumho-daum Platform’ and consists of ▲resident convenience facilities ▲startup support facilities in Geumho-dong, Gwangyang-si, Jeonnam, with a total project cost of 15 billion KRW and 5 billion KRW of national funding invested from 2022 to 2024.
The resident convenience facilities include ▲meeting rooms ▲club rooms ▲shared dining room and kitchen ▲cafe ▲senior facilities ▲rooftop barbecue area ▲outdoor plaza ▲resident participation programs, considering that only old small-sized multi-family housing is distributed in the area and there is a lack of family leisure spaces, while linking with ongoing socio-economic organizational activities and social contribution activities in the region.
The startup support facilities have established detailed plans for ▲startup company office spaces ▲experimental spaces ▲co-working spaces ▲event halls ▲consulting and participation programs linked with the Gwangyang Venture Valley project.
The urban regeneration project in Ogok-myeon, Gokseong-gun, Jeonnam, named ‘A Space of Coexistence, Sharing, and Sympathy! Train Village Happiness Connection,’ plans to demolish aging public buildings (Grade D) and create resident education, culture, and care spaces to establish a foundation for resident welfare support, with a total project cost of 8.08 billion KRW and 3.1 billion KRW of national funding invested from 2022 to 2024.
The Happiness Connection will be a newly constructed three-story complex cultural space housing an administrative welfare center, shared parking lot, village cafe, Blue Bed laundry, Ogok Space, art shop, and rooftop garden, which are living SOC facilities.
Assemblyman Seo Dong-yong stated, “Through the selection of this urban regeneration project, by supporting community facilities such as cultural life facilities and living SOC facilities lacking in Gwangyang-si and Gokseong-gun, it is expected to greatly help revitalize the local economy through job creation and income generation for local residents.”
