Incheon Main Customs, Last Month's Trade Volume $265 Billion... Achieves Record High
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Last month, the total trade volume through Incheon Customs exceeded 26 billion dollars, marking a record high for two consecutive months.
According to Incheon Customs on the 17th, the total trade volume through Incheon Customs last month was 26.5 billion dollars, a 27.4% increase compared to the same period last year. During this period, exports increased by 30.8% to 9 billion dollars, and imports rose by 25.8% to 17.5 billion dollars.
Semiconductors and other electrical and electronic products (accounting for 53.0%) led exports with a 46.7% increase compared to the same period last year, followed by chemical products (11.8%) and machinery and precision instruments (11.4%).
In imports, major items such as electrical and electronic devices and chemical products increased by 18.5% and 34.7%, respectively, driving performance. However, fuel (accounting for 8.6%) increased by 190.5% compared to the same period last year, which was confirmed to be due to the rise in international oil prices.
The major export countries were China (2.81 billion dollars, up 45.4%), ASEAN (1.93 billion dollars, up 50.0%), the United States (1.16 billion dollars, up 52.0%), Europe (870 million dollars, up 2.7%), Hong Kong (690 million dollars, down 5.6%), and Japan (390 million dollars, up 32.5%).
The major import countries were China (5.78 billion dollars, up 18.0%), ASEAN (2.38 billion dollars, up 37.2%), Europe (2.37 billion dollars, up 3.6%), the United States (1.51 billion dollars, up 31.9%), Japan (1.16 billion dollars, up 25.6%), and the Middle East (420 million dollars, up 27.8%).
By mode of transport, exports through Incheon Port accounted for 3.06 billion dollars, representing 33.9% of the total, while imports were 7.76 billion dollars, accounting for 44.2%. Exports through Incheon Airport totaled 5.96 billion dollars (66.1% share), and imports were 9.79 billion dollars (55.8% share).
Last month, the export-import cargo volume (by weight) through Incheon Customs was 6.78 million tons, a 10.8% increase compared to the same period last year. Among them, export cargo volume decreased by 0.3% to 1.14 million tons, while import cargo volume increased by 13.4% to 5.64 million tons. The share of export-import cargo volume at Incheon Port was about 95.9% (6.5 million tons) of the total through Incheon Customs, while Incheon Airport accounted for 4.1% (280,000 tons).

The container export-import cargo volume through Incheon Port decreased by 8.5% compared to the same period last year to 280,000 TEU, with export containers down 9.1% to 140,000 TEU and import containers down 8.0% to 140,000 TEU. The export-import cargo volume through Incheon Airport increased by 8.3% compared to the same period last year to 280,000 tons, showing an upward trend. Export cargo volume increased by 3.3% to 140,000 tons, and import cargo volume increased by 14.1% to 140,000 tons.
