BTOB's Jung Ilhoon Released on Probation in Second Trial for 'Marijuana Inhalation' Case
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Jung Il-hoon (27), a former member of the idol group BTOB, who was sentenced to prison in the first trial for repeatedly smoking marijuana, was released on probation in the appeal trial.
The Criminal Division 13 of the Seoul High Court (Presiding Judges Choi Soo-hwan, Choi Sung-bo, Jung Hyun-mi) overturned the first trial that sentenced Jung to 2 years in prison and a fine of about 133 million won for violating the Narcotics Control Act on the 16th, and sentenced him to 2 years in prison with a 3-year probation. He was also ordered to attend 40 hours of drug treatment lectures and pay a fine of about 120 million won.
Three accomplices who were indicted along with Jung and received prison sentences in the first trial were also released on probation that day.
The court said, "Considering that the family showed a strong will for guidance and that the defendant pledged not to reoffend during about six months of detention, the sentence was newly determined." It added, "Probation was sentenced to all defendants, and we hope they overcome the impulse to reoffend."
Jung was indicted in April for purchasing and smoking marijuana worth about 133 million won a total of 161 times from July 2016 to January 2019.
