Gwangju Seo-gu Receives 'Eutteum Award' for Good Neighbor Bright Neighborhood

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Dae-seok) has selected Ms. An Hae-ok (Chairperson of Hwajeong 4-dong Residents' Autonomy Committee) as the top winner in the Good Neighbor category of the '2021 Good Neighbor Bright Neighborhood' awards.

According to Seo-gu on the 16th, the 'Good Neighbor Bright Neighborhood' award is jointly hosted by the Gwangju Broadcasting Culture Foundation and Gwangju Metropolitan City. It is given to individuals and organizations who volunteer for the local community and lead efforts to make the area a pleasant place to live.

This year, individuals and organizations who contributed to the spread of a healthy social culture and the realization of a happy and hopeful Gwangju community through efforts to prevent and overcome the spread of COVID-19 were selected.

Ms. An Hae-ok, who was selected as the top winner in the Good Neighbor category, has participated in village activities as a member of the Hwajeong 4-dong Residents' Autonomy Committee in Seo-gu since 2013 and is currently serving as the chairperson, dedicating herself to residents' autonomy.

In 2015, she formed the 'Hwasehan Village Theater Troupe' community as part of the Seo-gu resident-led good village creation project and has led participation in the annual Citizen Theater Festival.

Especially this year, as COVID-19 restrictions limited residents' autonomy and village activities, she utilized an online YouTube channel to hold residents' general meetings and planned and produced village public service advertisements, contributing to smooth communication among residents and revitalization of the community.

She also developed the idea of a considerate parking zone to solve parking and stopping issues in Yeomju Meokja Alley of Hwajeong 4-dong, and made efforts to resolve village problems by personally visiting the site and promoting campaigns.

A Seo-gu official said, "This award is a valuable result earned through the affection and dedication of village residents for the local community," and added, "We will continue to provide wholehearted support to create an environment where residents can voluntarily and actively participate in local community activities."
