Seoul City Hosts 'Energy Information Platform Utilization Hackathon'... 5 Teams Selected
Daesang Green Zone Team's 'Energy Secretary'... Inducing Energy Saving by Connecting Apartment Elevator Monitors and Chatbots on the Platform
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 15th that it held the 'Seoul Energy Information Platform Hackathon Competition' for young people nationwide and selected five teams that presented excellent citizen-utilization ideas.
This hackathon competition was planned with the purpose of discovering the value of utilizing energy information based on the energy data of the 'Seoul Energy Information Platform' and discovering new energy services to provide to citizens. Out of a total of 10 teams, five outstanding teams were awarded, and the award ceremony was held on the 11th.
The Grand Prize-winning Green Zone team proposed the idea of an ‘Energy Secretary’ that increases accessibility to the energy information platform using elevator monitors and chatbots within apartments, helping citizens save energy in their daily lives. The ‘Energy Secretary’ is a service that links screens inside apartment elevators and KakaoTalk chatbots, the largest SNS in Korea, to the Seoul Energy Information Platform to provide energy usage fee transmission, efficiency status, and real-time advertisements.
The Excellence Award went to the EnergiPa team with ‘I, Tree’ and the Staverse team with the ‘Mission 2050’ idea. EnergiPa’s ‘I, Tree’ is a game-type app where children grow trees through energy-saving activities in a virtual world, and in reality, actual trees are named after them, combining games and reality tailored to children’s perspectives.
The Merit Award was given to the Montasona team with ‘NU Rate Plan’ and the Janghada team with the ‘Green Diary’ idea. Montasona’s ‘NU Rate Plan’ is an idea to introduce a prepaid electricity billing system, currently implemented overseas in the US and Europe, to help users understand their power consumption patterns and reduce consumption.
To help young people further develop their ideas, Seoul City supported each team’s idea development through mentoring by experts in three fields: planning/business, development/solutions, and marketing, starting with an orientation on November 13 and lasting about a month. The evaluation was divided into preliminary and on-site assessments, and the top five teams with high scores were awarded the Seoul Mayor’s Certificate and a total prize of 5 million KRW.
