Seoul City and Jaseng Medical Foundation Provide 1,500 Winter Jackets to Elderly Paper Collectors
Seoul City Implements Comprehensive Care Measures for Elderly Scrap Collectors Since 2018
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 15th that it will provide winter clothing to elderly people collecting waste paper in collaboration with the Jaseng Medical Foundation and the Seoul Social Welfare Council.
This support is part of the "Safety and Winter Supplies Support Project" aimed at preventing safety accidents during waste paper collection activities by elderly collectors, supported by private organizations and companies through the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Social Welfare Council.
Since launching a comprehensive care plan for elderly waste paper collectors in 2018, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has been providing tailored services in various fields including "livelihood and housing," "jobs," "care," and "safety," based on surveys and assessments.
Additionally, to promote the support project, the Seoul Metropolitan Government will sign a social contribution agreement with the Jaseng Medical Foundation and the Seoul Social Welfare Council. The signing ceremony will be held at the new Seoul City Hall on the same day, attended by Ha Young-tae, Director of Welfare Policy at Seoul City, Shin Min-sik, Chairman of Social Contribution at Jaseng Medical Foundation, and Lee In-gyu, Director of the Social Contribution Center at the Seoul Social Welfare Council.
Shin Min-sik, Chairman of Social Contribution at the Jaseng Medical Foundation, said, "We are very honored to extend a warm hand to the elderly through this donation activity and to help them overcome the cold winter together," adding, "Going forward, the Jaseng Medical Foundation will continue to collaborate with its 21 Jaseng Korean Medicine Hospitals and Clinics nationwide to become a medical institution that practices warm sharing not only in Seoul but throughout local communities."
