Gangjin-gun Secures 26.7 Billion KRW for New Water and Sewage Projects

27 Villages, 1,147 Households, Over 2,100 Residents Benefit

[Gangjin＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 14th that six districts were selected for the 2022 national subsidy public project for water supply and sewage, securing a total project cost of 26.7 billion KRW, including 18.7 billion KRW in national subsidies.

The county continuously visited related departments, including the Ministry of Environment, to secure national subsidies, explaining the necessity and justification of the project. As a result, six districts were selected as project sites, benefiting the water-related living environment of 1,147 households in 27 villages.

The secured project funds will be invested with 16.3 billion KRW for the wide-area water supply project and 10.4 billion KRW for the sewage sector.

The new water supply project districts are Songwol District (Seongjeon Wolsong, Sinan, and 6 other villages / 5.7 billion KRW), Gyeyul District (Daegu Gyetchi, Nansan, and 7 other villages / 4.8 billion KRW), and Dorim District (Seongjeon Dongryeong, Singi, and 9 other villages / 5.8 billion KRW), totaling 16.3 billion KRW in project costs.

These areas have used valley water or wells until now, but once the project is completed, they will be able to use safe wide-area tap water, and the water supply rate within the county is expected to expand to 85%.

Additionally, the new sewage projects include Simok Seokcheon District (Gundong Simok, Doam Seokcheon / 3.0 billion KRW), Shinma Treatment Subdistrict (Maryang Sukma / 1.8 billion KRW), and Seongjeon Osan Treatment Subdistrict Sewage Pipeline Maintenance Project (Seongjeon Dongryeong, Singi, and 4 other villages / 5.6 billion KRW), with a total project cost of 10.4 billion KRW planned.

Both projects are scheduled to complete basic and detailed designs by early next year and finish the projects by 2024, expected to greatly contribute to improving the quality of life for local residents by improving the water quality of discharge areas and creating a pleasant environment.

Meanwhile, on the 4th of last month, Gangjin-gun signed a water facility linkage operation agreement with Jangheung-gun, achieving early supply of wide-area tap water to 87 households in Maryang Sang and Habun villages by using the water pipeline facilities of Bunto Village in nearby Jangheung-gun, saving 700 million KRW in pipeline installation costs, and resolving blind spots in water welfare.

Park Sang-ham, head of the Water Supply and Sewage Business Office, stated, “We will continue to do our best to secure national subsidies related to water supply and sewage projects so that residents can live with clean and safe water.”
