Prosecution Lifts Prosecution Suspension for Cho Hyun-moon, Second Son of Hyosung Family in 'Brotherly Conflict'... Investigation Resumes
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The prosecution has lifted the suspension of indictment against Cho Hyun-moon, the second son of the Hyosung Group family, who was accused of attempted extortion, and will resume the investigation.
According to the legal community on the 14th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office recently assigned the case of former Vice Chairman Cho, which had been under suspension of indictment, to the 14th Criminal Division (Chief Prosecutor Kim Ji-wan).
Suspension of indictment is a measure taken by the prosecution to halt an investigation when it is difficult to proceed further due to the inability to locate the suspect. Once the reason for suspension is resolved, the investigation can resume. The statute of limitations is also maintained. It is known that the prosecution recently lifted the suspension of indictment after confirming the whereabouts of former Vice Chairman Cho, who had been absconding overseas.
Former Vice Chairman Cho was accused of attempted extortion in 2017 by his older brother, Cho Hyun-joon, Chairman of Hyosung. Since July 2014, he had filed complaints and accusations alleging embezzlement and breach of trust by Chairman Cho and key company executives. This triggered a 'brotherly feud' within the Hyosung family.
