194 Confirmed Cases and 1 Death in Gyeongnam... Cluster Infections in Medical Institutions and Various Places
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Ju Cheol-in] As of 5 p.m. on the 13th, Gyeongnam Province announced that 194 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported within the province.
By region, there were 82 cases in Changwon, 28 in Jinju, 16 in Yangsan, 14 in Uiryeong, 12 in Gimhae, 10 in Tongyeong, 9 each in Sacheon and Changnyeong, 7 in Haman, 5 in Geoje, and 1 each in Hadong and Sancheong.
Regarding the infection routes, among the total confirmed cases, 96 were infected through contact with confirmed cases within the province such as family, acquaintances, and coworkers. Twelve cases were confirmed after contact with confirmed cases from other regions such as Seoul and Busan.
The impact of cluster infections also continued. Fourteen cases were related to a medical institution in Uiryeong, 13 to Changwon Medical Institution IV, 4 to Changwon Company IV, 2 to Gimhae Nursing Hospital II, and 3 to a Changwon nursing facility.
Additionally, 2 cases were confirmed related to a Sacheon cram school, 2 related to a Haman bathhouse, 2 related to a school in Tongyeong, 1 related to Gimhae Daycare III, and 1 related to a Yangsan bathhouse.
Among these, the newly identified cluster infection route at Changwon Medical Institution IV saw 4 patients and 1 staff member confirmed positive on the 9th, and as a result of comprehensive testing, 15 additional cases have been confirmed so far. This medical institution, which has recorded a cumulative total of 20 confirmed cases, is currently under cohort isolation.
Also, at Changwon Company IV, 1 staff member was confirmed positive on the 10th, and since then, the cumulative number of confirmed cases including staff and their families has increased to 23. This company is currently voluntarily closed and plans to conduct comprehensive testing of all employees every 3 days.
Regarding the Changwon nursing facility, after 1 resident was first confirmed positive on the 11th, the cumulative number of confirmed cases has risen to 19. This facility is currently under cohort isolation and plans to conduct comprehensive testing of residents and staff every 3 days to minimize transmission.
At the Uiryeong medical institution, after 1 staff member was confirmed positive on the 12th, comprehensive testing identified 14 additional patients as positive. The ward where confirmed cases occurred is under cohort isolation.
Three cases are overseas entrants. The infection routes of the remaining 39 cases are under investigation.
The 62nd death in the province was also reported. The health authorities stated that an elderly patient in their 80s who was hospitalized at Jinju National Gyeongsang National University Hospital passed away.

Accordingly, the total cumulative confirmed cases in the province have increased to 17,107 (1,822 hospitalized, 15,223 discharged, 62 deceased).
