Gwangju City to Hold 'Urban Agriculture Promotion Exhibition' Until the 21st
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 13th that it will hold an ‘Urban Agriculture Promotion Exhibition’ at the City Hall Citizen Hall until the 21st to increase understanding of urban agriculture among citizens and public officials and to expand participants.
Recently, as urban agriculture has gained importance beyond hobbies and leisure in solving environmental problems and urban regeneration, the city is promoting urban agriculture policies focusing on fostering community awareness and responding to the climate crisis.
In particular, the city has made events such as urban agriculture specialized villages, welfare facility gardens, apartment community gardens, direct agricultural product transactions, and rural labor assistance mandatory to ensure that urban agriculture contributes to urban-rural coexistence. It has also created various types of spaces such as vacant house gardens, rooftop gardens, and small leftover gardens.
The promotion exhibition is organized with photos and charts under themes such as ▲Understanding Urban Agriculture ▲Overseas Urban Agriculture Cases ▲Urban Agriculture in Other Cities and Provinces ▲Current Status of Our City’s Urban Agriculture (Urban Agriculture Park, Public Urban Agriculture Farm, Gardens in the City Center, Public Institution Gardens, Vertical Smart Farms, etc.) ▲Do We Really Need Urban Agriculture? to make the importance and necessity of urban agriculture easy to understand.
Along with this, events such as uploading certified photos on social networking services (SNS) and taking potting soil in empty cups or flowerpots were held to encourage visitor participation.
Kim Hyunjung, Director of the City’s Life Agriculture Division, said, “Urban agriculture is the most fundamental practical measure for post-COVID-19 daily recovery, realizing a carbon-neutral city by 2045, reducing fine dust, and alleviating urban heat island phenomena.” He added, “We plan to continue promoting citizen-experience-oriented urban agriculture policies, so we ask for many visitors to this exhibition.”
