Additional Avian Influenza Cases Reported in Cheonan West... 280,000 Poultry Culled
[Asia Economy (Cheonan) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Highly pathogenic avian influenza has occurred additionally at a laying hen farm in Cheonan, Chungnam.
According to Chungnam Province on the 13th, the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency's detailed inspection results on the suspected avian influenza report received on the 11th from a laying hen farm in Gasong-ri, Pungse-myeon, Cheonan, confirmed the suspected bird as highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1).
Following the confirmed result, the province is carrying out preventive culling of approximately 286,000 poultry within a 500m radius centered on the affected farm and is setting up quarantine zones within 3km and 10km radii to control the movement of vehicles and others.
The highly pathogenic avian influenza that occurred in Cheonan is the second case in Chungnam following the laying hen farm in Yongjeong Complex, Pungse-myeon, Cheonan on the 3rd, and the 11th case nationwide.
Previously, on the 3rd, Chungnam suffered damage by culling about 324,000 poultry raised at seven farms after the first highly pathogenic avian influenza occurred at a laying hen farm in Yongjeong Complex, Pungse-myeon, Cheonan.

Im Seung-beom, head of the Animal Quarantine and Hygiene Division of the province, said, “We will do our best to prevent the spread of avian influenza by mobilizing all available personnel and equipment,” and urged, “Poultry farms should also fully respond to blocking measures such as controlling the entry of people and vehicles and disinfecting inside and outside the barns.”
