[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hye-young] KOTRA announced on the 12th that it held the 2021 graduation ceremony for the ‘Employment-Linked FTA Practical Workforce Training Project’ targeting students from specialized high schools and Meister high schools nationwide.

The project, conducted by KOTRA and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy since 2019, is a customized short-term trade practical course designed for students of specialized and Meister high schools.

This year, 171 third-year students from 10 specialized high schools nationwide were selected. Participating students completed practical training necessary for export companies, such as △Incoterms △FTA origin application △customs refund, as well as trade theory, Amazon e-commerce, and 4th industrial revolution analysis.

According to KOTRA, more than half of the students who participated in this project achieved employment outcomes in small and medium-sized export companies, public enterprises, and financial institutions.

Along with the graduation ceremony, a ‘Mock Trade Practical Competition’ was also held. Students directly selected Korean traditional-style gifts that overseas buyers would pay attention to and explained the reasons and significance of their selections to judges composed of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, KOTRA, and private companies (Samsung C&T, POSCO International). In the competition, a total of 10 teams received awards, including the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award (1 team), KOTRA President Award (2 teams), and KOTRA Academy Director Award (7 teams).

Park Han-jin, Director of KOTRA Academy, said, “The employment-linked education program specialized for specialized and Meister high schools is producing results beyond expectations every year,” and added, “We will strive to further expand such meaningful programs in the future.”
