View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will recruit students participating in the 2022 first semester rural study program from the 13th to the 17th.
The rural study program is designed for Seoul elementary and middle school students to attend small rural schools for a certain period while engaging in eco-friendly educational activities. It is conducted by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and the Jeollanam-do Office of Education.
There are three types of rural study programs: 'Homestay type,' where students live with farming parents in the local area; 'Family stay type,' where students move and live with their families; and 'Regional center type,' where students live at a center in the area with an activist who can act as a guardian.
In the first semester, 81 Seoul students participated in rural study programs in 10 regions of Jeollanam-do (Suncheon, Hwasun, Yeongam, Gokseong, Haenam, Gangjin, Sinan, Jangheung, Damyang, Jindo), and 57 of them decided to extend their stay for one more semester. In the second semester, 147 students participated in rural study programs in 17 regions of Jeollanam-do (including Gurye, Jangseong, Gwangyang, Boseong, Hampyeong, Muan, and Goheung). Among the 90 students who joined from the second semester, 53 extended their participation until the first semester of next year.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education supports rural study students with tuition fees for up to one year. Each student receives an initial settlement allowance of 500,000 KRW (one-time), and for the family stay type, a monthly allowance of 300,000 to 500,000 KRW is provided depending on the number of students per household. For the homestay and regional center types, 300,000 KRW per student is given monthly.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and the Jeollanam-do Office of Education will hold an information session for the 2022 first semester rural study recruitment on the 15th. The session will include answers to questions collected from parents through a prior survey and questions received live via YouTube.
