[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Seoyoung] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, directly stated that he does not want to respond to the remarks made by Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea.
On the 11th, after attending the launch ceremony of the People Power Party's Gangwon Province Election Countermeasures Committee, Yoon met with reporters and said, "(Regarding Lee's remark that the special prosecutor discussion is being delayed) I don't understand what he means. His pledges change daily, so I don't even know what he is talking about." Yoon added, "I generally do not want to use such expressions about the opposing party's candidate, but I have no intention of responding to Lee's remarks."
Regarding Lee's evaluation of former presidents such as Rhee Syngman, Chun Doo-hwan, and Park Chung-hee as having "mixed legacies," Yoon pointed out, "That story changes every day as well." He continued, "It seems it was not long ago that he said that after liberation, the U.S. and pro-Japanese factions acted as occupying forces in South Korea, and that President Rhee was dominated because he was occupied." He added, "Don't ask me about Lee's remarks; you (the press) should interpret them well," and said, "It's really difficult to respond to statements that 'go back and forth.'"
On the same day at the launch ceremony, Yoon criticized the COVID-19 quarantine measures and the so-called 'Daejang-dong scandal' prosecution, saying, "There are more than just one or two things symbolizing an incompetent and corrupt regime. It cannot be called a normal democratic government." He pointed out, "During local development projects, special favors worth trillions of won went to related parties, but investigations into the flow of funds and accomplice relationships were not properly conducted," and added, "The person involved is now running as the ruling party's candidate and is making absurd claims."

Yoon continued, "Winning this election is the obligation and responsibility of the People Power Party in response to the people's demand to change this incompetent and corrupt regime," emphasizing, "We must not only win the presidential election but also the local elections, and use that as a stepping stone to win the 2024 general election. Political forces that lack these basics must be definitely expelled from South Korea, and we must discuss state affairs with an opposition party that truly thinks rationally."
