MS Opens 'Space Cloud' Era... Partners with Airbus, Europe's Largest Aerospace Company
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Microsoft (MS) has partnered with Europe's largest aerospace company, Airbus, to announce innovative technologies including the provision of premium satellite imagery.
On the 9th (local time), MS unveiled the public preview of its cloud-based ground station service, Azure Orbital. Last October, MS formed a space cloud partnership with SpaceX, SES, and others, and launched Azure Space, offering solutions for various industries. Building on this, MS has now announced innovative technologies that expand connectivity between satellites and Azure, as well as geospatial capabilities, thereby extending Azure Space.
Through the partnership with Airbus, MS provides Airbus's premium satellite imagery and elevation data on Azure Maps. The two companies realize new cloud computing scenarios, offering enterprises solutions to complex and time-consuming problems. Azure Maps users can utilize Airbus's premium data in developing new applications. For example, satellite data combined with Azure's machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) can analyze transportation routes, operational patterns, and global consumer trends to help predict potential risks in advance.
MS also unveiled the public preview of Azure Orbital, a cloud-based ground station service. Azure Orbital enables rapid analysis and service construction of data and information needed by industries by linking with satellites.
On the same day, Azure-based innovative technologies related to satellite imagery such as SpaceEye and Project Turing were introduced. SpaceEye combines radar data unaffected by clouds with previously captured optical images to predict images beneath clouds using AI. This technology has wide applications including agriculture, land use monitoring, and disaster response.
