Samsung Electronics Ranks 4th Worldwide in 'Digital Inclusion' Evaluation, Jumping from 10th Last Year
Ranked No.1 Among Asian Companies... Praised for Strengthening AI Ethics and Enhancing Product Accessibility
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyeyoung] Samsung Electronics was ranked 4th globally in the 'Digital Inclusion Benchmark' announced on the 7th (local time) by the global sustainability management alliance WBA.
This is interpreted as recognition of Samsung Electronics' achievements in researching and supporting digital technology from a sustainability perspective and sharing it with society. Samsung Electronics ranked 10th globally in the same evaluation last year, but its multifaceted efforts to strengthen ethics in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and improve product accessibility for people with disabilities received positive evaluations.
The top three global rankings were occupied by telecommunications companies Telef?nica (Spain), Orange (France), and Telstra (Australia). Samsung, Apple, and Cisco followed, jointly ranking 4th. Among the 150 ICT companies evaluated this year, Samsung Electronics ranked 1st among Asian companies.
In this 'Digital Inclusion' evaluation, Samsung Electronics received high scores for ▲publishing 'AI Ethics Principles' that pursue fairness, transparency, and accountability in the AI field ▲contributing to the technology innovation ecosystem through the external startup incubation program 'C-Lab Outside.'
Additionally, Samsung was praised for efforts to improve product accessibility for people with disabilities, such as developing the 'SeeColors' app, which checks the degree to which viewers who have difficulty distinguishing colors perceive red, green, and blue, and adjusts TV screen colors accordingly. Furthermore, social contribution activities focused on youth education, such as the 'Samsung Junior SW Academy,' a software education program for elementary and middle school students, and the 'Samsung Innovation Campus,' which supports IT programming and AI technology education for youth and unemployed young adults, also received high evaluations.
