[Asia Economy Reporter Ji Yeon-jin] Ko Seung-beom, Chairman of the Financial Services Commission, stated, "I believe that the full resumption of short selling is a path that must be taken eventually for inclusion in the MSCI developed market index."
Chairman Ko made this remark during a non-face-to-face press briefing on the 3rd, saying, "I understand that the partial resumption of short selling is being well received and settling in the market."
However, he added, "The resumption of short selling must comprehensively consider effects from two directions and market conditions," and said, "There is no change from the previous stance that the method and timing of the resumption of short selling will be reviewed going forward." He further explained, "We have not yet discussed the timing of the resumption of short selling with the Ministry of Economy and Finance."

Earlier, the government had completely banned short selling last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and on May 3 of this year, partially resumed short selling targeting KOSPI 200 and KOSPI 150 stocks.
