Groundbreaking of 'Eco-friendly Adhesive Material Production Plant' in Yeosu National Industrial Complex
Direx Polymer... Construction of a 150 Billion KRW Hot Melt Adhesive Material (APAO) Manufacturing Plant
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Sim Kyung-taek] In the Yeosu National Industrial Complex in Jeonnam, the foreign-invested joint venture ‘Direx Polymer’ has broken ground on the APAO (Amorphous Poly Alpha Olefin) plant.
It has been just over a month since Jeonnam Province and Yeosu City signed an investment agreement (MOU) on October 28 to build an APAO plant, a hot melt adhesive material, by investing 150 billion KRW on the DL Chemical site in Yeosu National Industrial Complex.
The groundbreaking ceremony held on the 1st was attended by about 50 people including Kwon Oh-bong, Mayor of Yeosu, Jeon Chang-gon, Chairman of Yeosu City Council, Lee Yong-gyu, Chairman of Yeosu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Park Jin-man, Head of the Jeonnam Regional Headquarters of Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, and Kim Man-jung, CEO of Direx Polymer.
Direx Polymer is a foreign-invested corporation established in September by DL Chemical (formerly Daelim Industrial), which possesses independent technology from synthesis to manufacturing process in the domestic first polybutene field, and REXtac, the world’s third-largest hot melt adhesive manufacturer based in the United States.
The APAO manufacturing plant, which broke ground this time, is scheduled to be completed by the end of next year, undergo trial operation, and start full-scale production in the first half of 2023, expected to create about 80 new jobs.
APAO (Amorphous Poly Alpha Olefin) is a heat-meltable adhesive widely used in hygiene products, automotive interior and exterior materials, and various industrial products. Currently, the market size is a promising future business sector that is steadily growing by more than 6% annually.
As an eco-friendly material harmless to the human body, it is expected to revitalize the local economy and create jobs by domesticating hygiene adhesives and fostering specialized personnel in related industries, thereby injecting vitality into the region.
