To this end, the Gyeonggi Office of Education is accepting applications from schools in the province until the 13th.
The Gyeonggi Office of Education has been conducting asbestos dismantling and removal work in schools since 2016 to create a safe educational environment free from asbestos. The annual removal records are as follows: ▲2016 - 516 schools ▲2017 - 276 schools ▲2018 - 252 schools ▲2019 - 228 schools ▲2020 - 220 schools ▲2021 - 119 schools.
The Gyeonggi Office of Education has allocated a budget of 86.4 billion KRW for the school asbestos dismantling and removal project next year.
The Gyeonggi Office of Education selects priority targets by reflecting asbestos risk assessments, replacement of heating and cooling systems, seismic reinforcement, sprinkler improvements, and other related facility construction. Additionally, asbestos dismantling and removal work will be carried out together with LED lighting installation.
Schools wishing to apply should decide the timing and scope of the asbestos dismantling and removal work through discussions within the educational community, and then submit the project application to the relevant education support office by the 13th. The selection results will be announced on the Gyeonggi Office of Education website at the end of this month.
Kim I-du, head of the Facilities Division at the Gyeonggi Office of Education, stated, "We operate a prior notification system to inform schools in advance about the confirmation of asbestos dismantling and removal work to avoid confusion at school sites," and added, "We will communicate on-site to ensure that asbestos dismantling and removal work is carried out safely based on the consensus and understanding of school members."
