We Are 'Global Teachers'... Shilla University English Education Department Wins 'Best Award' at IGT Competition

Silla University received the 'Grand Prize' at the National IGT Competition.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, trainee reporter Hwang Du-yeol] A student from Silla University received the ‘Excellence Award’ at the national IGT (I am a Global Teacher) competition.

The competition is designed to select prospective teachers with global competencies.

The team of third-year English Education students from Silla University, Pyo Jeong-eun, Yoo Seong-jin, and Kim Yoo-bin, received the Excellence Award, the Korea Research Foundation Chairman’s Award, and a prize of 500,000 KRW at the ‘2021 IGT Competition’.

The IGT competition was hosted by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Research Foundation. Since 2014, it has been held nationwide for students enrolled in teachers’ colleges and education departments.

The competition aims to cultivate teachers equipped with global educational capabilities and multicultural education competencies.

Students from across the country who passed the regional preliminaries in two categories, ‘Global Mock Class Demonstration’ and ‘Multicultural Education Project Presentation,’ participated in the final round on the 17th.

The Silla University student team demonstrated a global mock class under the theme ‘Interdisciplinary Curriculum Integration Classes for Multicultural Sensitivity.’

The judges commented, “The lesson plan is solidly structured with key elements well placed throughout the class,” and “The in-depth research on teaching methods that can enhance multicultural understanding and learning efficiency stood out.”

Student Pyo Jeong-eun said in her acceptance speech, “I will continue to develop various competencies and prepare myself to become a teacher suitable for the future educational environment.”
