Jeonju City to Begin Basic Public Interest Direct Payment from the 2nd
Payment of Over 5.6 Billion Won to 5,053 Agricultural Workers
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonju City announced on the 1st that starting from the 2nd of this month, it will pay a total of over 5.6 billion won in Basic Public Interest Direct Payments to 5,053 farming workers (2,886 hectares).
Now in its second year of implementation, the Public Interest Direct Payment System is a program that provides direct payments to farmers who meet certain qualifications and comply with requirements to promote the public functions of agriculture and rural areas and stabilize farmers' incomes.
Jeonju City received applications for the Basic Public Interest Direct Payments from April to May, verified eligibility, and finalized the list of recipients.
Additionally, among the applicants, compliance inspections were conducted on 17 requirements including farmland shape and function maintenance. If violations such as improper maintenance or failure to adhere to safe pesticide use standards were confirmed, 10% of the direct payment was reduced.
First, farmers who meet eight small-scale direct payment conditions, such as having farmland area of 0.5 hectares or less, more than three years of farming experience, and more than three years of residence in rural areas, will receive small-scale direct payments.
The small-scale direct payments amount to a total of 1.275 billion won and will be paid at 1.2 million won per farm to 1,064 recipients.
Furthermore, farmers with farmland exceeding 0.5 hectares will receive area-based direct payments.
The area-based direct payments are differentiated by area brackets, with a total of 3.989 billion won paid to 3,989 recipients.
