[Gangjin=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] The WeStart Childcare Support Center in Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do, announced on the 1st that it held the '2nd Accidental Dad Childcare Golden Bell' jointly with Korea Electric Power Corporation Gangjin Power Branch on the 27th of last month.
Now in its second year, the Dad Childcare Golden Bell is open to any male caregiver residing in the area who is raising children under the age of six, and it was conducted through childcare knowledge and nonsense quizzes.
Ten families participated in this event, attracting attention as a dad with a 2-month-old baby and a grandfather raising his grandson also took part.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, only one participant was allowed on-site, and families were able to cheer in real-time from home via YouTube live streaming.
Mr. Oh Seong-woo (Gangjin-eup), who won first place, said, "I want to share this joy with my wife and first child who are cheering at home. Since my second child is in my womb, the joy feels doubled," adding, "It was great to learn a lot of childcare knowledge while solving the quizzes."
The Golden Bell awardees were second place Hwang Seung-hyun (Gangjin-eup), third place Park Min-cheol (Gangjin-eup), and fourth place Song Jae-su (Gangjin-eup). The first-place winner received a 200,000 KRW Gangjin Onnuri gift certificate, second place 100,000 KRW, third place 40,000 KRW, and fourth place 30,000 KRW. All participants were given a ramen pot prepared by the Childcare Support Center and an Eobuba package box sponsored by the Credit Union.
County Governor Lee Seung-ok said, "Active participation of men in childcare is also very important to overcome low birth rates," and added, "Let's work together to make Gangjin a great place to raise children."
