Wando-gun, Record High Total Budget of 633.9 Billion KRW in 2021
Increase of 8.7 Billion Compared to 2020, Approved by the Assembly on the 30th of Last Month
[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do, has finalized the third supplementary budget for 2021, the largest ever at 633.9 billion KRW.
According to the county on the 1st, this amount is 8.7 billion KRW more than last year, with the general account at 614.9 billion KRW and the special account at 19 billion KRW.
Despite little change in local taxes and non-tax revenues, and a shortage of its own tax base, Wando-gun continuously visited central and provincial governments to propose pending projects, resulting in steady increases in local allocation tax and national/provincial subsidies.
In particular, large-scale project funds such as the LPG pipeline supply project, marine healing industry, and multipurpose indoor gymnasium have been secured without setbacks since last year, leading to a significant increase.
By sector, the budget is allocated as follows: general public administration 52.8 billion KRW, culture and tourism 37 billion KRW, environment 51.9 billion KRW, social welfare 133.4 billion KRW, health 12 billion KRW, agriculture, forestry, marine and fisheries 187.1 billion KRW, industry, small and medium enterprises and energy 10.7 billion KRW, transportation and logistics 19 billion KRW, and land and regional development 36 billion KRW.
Meanwhile, the county is focusing all efforts on key projects for long-term development such as the marine healing industry, marine bio industry, and construction of a marine tourism hub city.
The marine healing center, a core facility of the marine healing industry, has begun construction, and the marine climate healing center was completed last May.
To fully activate the marine bio industry, progress is being made on establishing a marine bio joint research institute and a seaweed bioactive material certified production facility.
Additionally, ahead of the 2023 Jeollanam-do Sports Festival and Disabled Sports Festival, the first to be held since the establishment of the county, and the 2024 Jeollanam-do Sports for All Grand Festival, various sports facilities such as the multipurpose indoor gymnasium, national sports center, and Bogil and Gogeum Sports Parks are being expanded.
County Governor Shin Woo-cheol said, “With the secured budget, key projects are progressing smoothly. We will operate the budget efficiently and systematically to successfully lead future growth engine industries, contributing to improving residents’ quality of life and revitalizing the local economy.”
