WYSIWYG Studio "Wizoncen Screens 'Bolshoi Ballet in Cinema' with Megabox"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] WizOnSen, a performance content specialist subsidiary of comprehensive media content producer WYSIWYG Studio (hereinafter WYSIWYG), announced on the 1st that it has secured exclusive distribution rights for five representative works of the Russian Bolshoi Ballet and will sequentially screen them through domestic multiplex cinemas ‘Megabox’.
Starting with ‘Spartacus’ this year, followed by ‘The Nutcracker’, and next year ‘Swan Lake’, ‘Jewels’, and ‘Pharaoh’s Daughter’, the performances are scheduled to meet audiences sequentially over about half a year.
‘Bolshoi Ballet in Cinema’ is a filmed version of performances by the Bolshoi Ballet of Moscow, Russia, renowned as one of the world’s top-level ballet companies, and this is the first time it will be screened on theater screens in Korea.
WizOnSen signed an exclusive distribution contract for the latest season of the Bolshoi Ballet with the French major cinema group ‘Path?’ last August, and this time secured exclusive domestic distribution rights for five iconic representative works of the Bolshoi Ballet: ‘Spartacus’, ‘The Nutcracker’, ‘Swan Lake’, ‘Jewels’, and ‘Pharaoh’s Daughter’.
Since its establishment at the end of last year, WizOnSen has been showing rapid business achievements, including securing the exclusive domestic distribution rights for the Bolshoi Ballet. In August, WizOnSen successfully held a preview screening of the Hollywood performance documentary film ‘The Show Must Go On’, which it produced and invested in on Broadway in the United States, and co-produced the London West End musical ‘Anything Goes’ with UK’s Trafalgar Entertainment.
A WizOnSen official said, “Since COVID-19, the performance market environment has been changing worldwide including Korea, and recently digitalization across the industry has been progressing at a very rapid pace, breaking the traditional formula that ‘performance content is for live viewing.’”

He added, “As audiences increasingly consume performance content in various ways, such as experiencing opera house content through screens or owning performance content via cryptocurrency, WizOnSen is also creating its own digital performance content ecosystem with the OSMW (One Source Multi Windows) strategy. This is similar to how the parent company WYSIWYG succeeded in business diversification by producing various contents centered on the OSMU (One Source Multi Use) strategy.”
