Eco-Friendly Social Enterprise 'More Than'
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] The upcycle fashion brand 'Continue' has created a buzz as its bag made from Ferrari scrap leather sold out early even before its official release. Continue is a brand created by the social enterprise 'More Than,' nurtured by SK Innovation, and this project is being praised for elevating the image of upcycled products to a new level.
According to SK Innovation on the 30th, the premium eco-friendly products offered through the 'Continue' online site were sold out early during the pre-order phase. More Than has been sequentially launching premium eco-friendly products, starting with the 'Bentley Backpack turned Bag' in April, followed by the Jaguar backpack and others. Despite the high price range of over 1 million KRW for these products, orders have been closing continuously even before the product launches.
The high launch prices of these premium eco-friendly products are comparable to those of global luxury brands, with this bag being sold at a price of 2.2 million KRW, rivaling famous luxury brands like Louis Vuitton. This is a rare occurrence in the upcycle fashion industry.
More Than has been developing premium eco-friendly products for over 2 years and 3 months since the summer of 2019. During this period, More Than focused on securing materials from luxury car brands such as Ferrari and Bentley. Additionally, More Than completed the design work for premium products after dozens of trials and errors over about 1 year and 2 months, even filing patents for the products.
More Than released this product by recycling scrap leather from the luxury car brand Ferrari. Notably, this product is eco-friendly not only because it recycles discarded scrap leather but also because the materials were washed with rainwater and the product was manufactured using renewable energy, achieving zero water footprint and zero carbon footprint.
Furthermore, this product is highly regarded for its quality, as it is 100% handmade by an artisan with 43 years of experience in bag making. It takes about 50 days to make one bag. Mass production is also impossible.
