The Smart Garden was initiated last year as a new project by the Korea Forest Service to improve working environments and provide rest areas.
There are two types: cube-shaped gardens formed in box shapes, and wall-type gardens that utilize walls such as meeting rooms and lounges. Using intelligent plant automation management technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT), it is designed to automatically regulate plant growth without the need for additional manpower.
It minimizes maintenance costs through features such as light intensity and watering control, wind and air purification function control devices, an automatic watering system that supplies water based on the plant’s growth status, and growth lighting with controllable illumination.
By planting air-purifying plants, it not only reduces fine dust and purifies the air but also provides healing effects, making it welcomed by workers and visitors in the local shipbuilding industry.
The city established three Smart Gardens last year, added three more this year, and plans to secure national funding next year to add three additional sites.
