Seo Im-seok, Gwangju Nam-gu Council Member, Calls for "Substantial Community Welfare"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] On the 26th, Seo Im-seok, a member of the Gwangju Nam-gu Council, raised the issue of the ‘Non-hiring of the Secretariat Director for the Nam-gu Community Social Security Council’ during the review and inquiry of the 281st regular session (3rd supplementary budget proposal).
Councilor Seo stated, “The Community Social Security Council has always played the role of a partner who helps local neighbors in need both mentally and economically, encouraging their will to live and enabling self-reliance,” adding, “It is a welfare project that is indispensable and has been reevaluated even more due to COVID-19.”
According to Councilor Seo, “Although the members of the Community Social Security Council were publicly recruited through official announcements in accordance with the ‘Ordinance on the Operation of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Nam-gu Community Social Security Council,’ it is known that the command post to coordinate and direct the work was not appointed.”
He continued, “The secretariat has been operating for a year without a director,” and pointed out, “If there was not even a single public recruitment announcement, this is negligence on the part of the Nam-gu Office.”
Councilor Seo emphasized, “The Nam-gu Community Social Security Council has many outstanding achievements compared to other local governments,” and added, “While fulfilling and discovering new welfare environment pledges by the district office is important, it is also crucial to strengthen the existing social welfare system.”
