National Library for Persons with Disabilities Awarded Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Commendation for 'IT-Enabled Open Library'
The National Library for the Disabled (Director Won Jong-pil) awarded the ‘IT Open Library’ on the 25th as an ‘Outstanding Institution for Alternative Material Sharing and Cooperation in 2021’ for contributing to expanding information access and bridging the information gap for people with disabilities through alternative material sharing.
‘IT Open Library’ is a library for the disabled authorized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2020. It has been building alternative materials and content for the visually impaired, and since its opening, it has shared about 7,000 digital audio books (DAISY files) through the National Alternative Material Sharing System.

A library official stated, “According to the Library Act, outstanding institutions for alternative material sharing and cooperation are awarded annually,” and added, “We hope that more institutions will engage in material sharing and cooperation for the information welfare of people with disabilities next year.”
