[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] On the 26th, Oh Byeong-kwon, Acting Governor of Gyeonggi Province, held a video countermeasure meeting with deputy heads of 31 cities and counties in the province, ordering thorough preparation and response regarding the implementation of the seasonal fine dust management system.
Acting Governor Oh said, "Last Sunday, emergency reduction measures were implemented not only in Gyeonggi Province but also in the metropolitan area and Chungcheong region," adding, "Since it is uncertain when fine dust concentration will rise again, from December to March next year, please maintain vigilance and prepare thoroughly for the implementation of the seasonal fine dust management system."
He continued, "Many tend to blame external factors for the occurrence of high-concentration fine dust, but the reduction efforts of local governments are most important," and added, "During the seasonal fine dust management period, please focus on operating street cleaning vehicles and water spraying trucks intensively, and pay attention to construction site management so that residents can feel the efforts of Gyeonggi Province and its cities and counties."
Earlier, on the 22nd, Gyeonggi Province announced the third implementation plan for the seasonal fine dust management system, which includes restrictions on the operation of grade 5 emission vehicles and intensive inspections of air pollutant emission workplaces.
Accordingly, the province has selected and is promoting 16 implementation tasks across six major sectors: transportation, industry, daily life, health protection, information provision, and cooperation.
In particular, the representative task in the transportation sector, the seasonal operation restriction on grade 5 emission vehicles, will be implemented throughout the metropolitan area, including Gyeonggi Province, from December 1 to March 31 next year, based on an agreement among the three metropolitan cities and provinces.
