Gochang-gun Ranks No.1 Nationwide in Livestock Odor Improvement Project Performance Evaluation

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeonbuk Gochang-gun (Governor Yu Gisang) announced on the 25th that it ranked first among 30 local governments nationwide selected in the 2021 Livestock Odor Improvement Project Promotion Performance Evaluation hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

The evaluation committee consists of about five of the best domestic experts in the field of livestock environment.

They prioritized based on budget execution performance, implementation rate of short-term odor management plans per farm, reduction rate of repeated odor complaints from farms compared to the previous year, and exemplary operation of regional councils.

As of the 22nd, the county has completed 95% execution of the total project budget of 2.578 billion KRW, spending 2.449 billion KRW, achieving one of the highest execution rates nationwide.

In addition, by daily guidance and management of cleanliness maintenance, disinfection, and cleaning of livestock barns per farm, the short-term odor management plan also achieved a high implementation rate, resulting in excellent performance.

Furthermore, odor complaints decreased by 27% compared to the previous year (June to September).

The county actively promoted regional council operations (8 times) composed of resident representatives, livestock organizations, and odor improvement experts, as well as field visits (5 times/13 locations), conducting odor reduction consulting per farm to continuously strive to develop livestock farming in harmony with local residents.

According to this evaluation result, following 2.6 billion KRW this year, 2.4 billion KRW will be secured next year, enabling the promotion of a total of 5 billion KRW worth of livestock odor improvement projects.

A county official said, “Next year, we will expand the existing regional council to enhance the odor improvement effect and create a sustainable livestock foundation through organic cooperation with related organizations and groups.”
