Online Agreement Ceremony Held on the 25th
Oh Se-hoon: "Actively Supporting Lima City to Become a Smarter City"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon held an online "Seoul Smart City Cooperation Agreement Ceremony" with Jorge Mu?oz Wells, Mayor of Lima, Peru, on the 25th, and will transfer Seoul-style smart city policies to Lima.
Through this cooperation agreement, Seoul plans to transfer its world-class experience and know-how in establishing smart city policies accumulated over the years to Lima, Peru, a foothold in Latin America.
The agreement focuses on supporting the establishment of mid- to long-term development strategies and capacity-building training in three areas for Lima based on Seoul's smart city policies: ▲ citizen safety ▲ public transportation infrastructure ▲ digital development. By sector, various Seoul smart city policies such as ▲ integrated CCTV monitoring system, smart poles ▲ public transportation integrated system (TOPIS), traffic signal system improvement ▲ public internet, S-Dot will be shared.
In his welcoming remarks, Mayor Oh mentioned his special connection with Lima from his past role as an advisor for the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and emphasized that he will actively share Seoul's smart city policies and operational know-how with Lima. He expressed hope that Lima will become a smarter city based on Seoul's smart city policies. Jorge Mu?oz, Mayor of Lima, stated in his response that Seoul's smart city model is a role model for Latin American countries and expressed hope that the two cities will strengthen cooperation in the smart city field through this agreement.
The event was attended by Cho Young-jun, Korean Ambassador to Peru, Daul Matute Mejia, Peruvian Ambassador to Korea, and city government officials, who expressed their expectations for smart city cooperation between the two cities. Ambassador Cho Young-jun mentioned the international status of Korean smart cities, including Seoul, in his congratulatory remarks and expressed hope that cooperation between the two cities will contribute to achieving the goal of mutual prosperity between Korea and Peru. Ambassador Daul Matute Mejia expressed gratitude for Seoul's unconditional friendship and cooperation, recalling past collaborations such as the "Seoul World City Culture Festival" and the "200th Anniversary of Peru's Independence Photo Exhibition."

Meanwhile, Seoul shares its excellent policies in transportation, smart cities, and other areas with overseas cities using ODA funds and other resources, responding to high overseas demand. To date, Seoul has exported 89 policies worth 804.8 billion KRW to 60 cities and institutions in 34 countries.
