[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry is stepping up as a mentor supporting innovation for local companies by establishing a startup platform.

The ‘Mentor Platform’ signals a new role in revitalizing startup investment and supporting business diversification.

On the 24th, Busan Chamber of Commerce announced that on the 3rd of next month, it will hold the ‘Busan Startup Day 99℃’ event together with the Busan Center for Creative Economy and Innovation, IBK Changgong, and the Busan Headquarters of the Research and Development Special Zone Promotion Foundation.

This event is planned to be held in the form of inviting senior businesspeople mainly from Busan Chamber member companies to introduce promising local startup businesses.

Busan Startup Day 99℃ is an event meaning that local companies add 1℃ of interest and support to startups that have reached 99℃, the temperature just before water boils, symbolizing startups ripe with growth potential.

This event reflects the will of Jang In-hwa, chairman of the Busan Chamber of Commerce, who believes that fostering startups is essential to creating an innovative ecosystem in the regional economy.

Starting with this ‘Busan Startup Day 99℃’ event, the Busan Chamber plans to promote various projects together with local companies and startup fostering organizations.

This event is noteworthy as it is the first in the region where existing senior entrepreneurs and promising local startups meet to discuss business and investment.

The Busan Chamber provides existing companies with various investment information for management innovation and business diversification, while offering startups opportunities to promote their business content and secure new investment funds.

They are hoping for a new ecosystem built between existing industries and startups.

The event will feature a ‘10-minute Talk’ session with participation from Jang In-hwa, chairman of the Busan Chamber, Park Hyung-joon, mayor of Busan, and startup representatives, followed by a keynote lecture on ‘Corporate Innovation through Startups.’

Additionally, an ‘IR Stage’ introducing the businesses of eight promising local startups will be held. The startup receiving the most votes from attending businesspeople will be selected and awarded in a separate ceremony.

In IR Stage 1, three companies will participate: ‘BNI,’ which provides a system to prevent forklift collision accidents; ‘Sangyoung Magnet,’ a developer of customized magnetic transfer solutions based on IoT to improve production efficiency; and ‘Foodpang,’ a company building a food ingredient-exclusive O2O platform integrating mobile into the existing distribution structure.

In IR Stage 2, participants include ‘NGM,’ a company designing and producing high-performance aluminum-based hybrid composite materials based on nanotechnology; ‘Adialab,’ developing AI-based machine vision inspection systems; and ‘Koi,’ which develops oil collection net technology and oil recovery devices for rapid coastal oil spill response.

Also participating are ‘JK Tech,’ a developer of digital switchable transparent displays, and ‘ND Soft,’ a provider of real-time interpretation app services for communication with foreigners, among five companies in total.

Most of these startups are evaluated to have business models highly applicable in industrial sites or capable of open innovation with various companies.

Jang In-hwa, chairman of the Busan Chamber, said, “Activating open innovation through integration with startups is a crucial task for regional industrial innovation, and this event will serve as a catalyst.”
