Saneun to Foster 'Secondary Battery and Eco-friendly Materials' with SKC... 1.5 Trillion Won Financial Support over 5 Years
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-ho Kim] On the 24th, the Korea Development Bank announced that it signed an 'Industry-Finance Cooperation Program for the Promotion of Secondary Battery and Eco-friendly Materials' agreement with SKC at the copper foil factory of SK Nexilis, a subsidiary of SKC, located in Jeongeup, Jeonbuk.
This agreement was prepared to strengthen the competitiveness of the secondary battery and eco-friendly materials industry and to revitalize private investment for the government's 2050 carbon neutrality goal.
SKC is a company that has led the domestic chemical, film, and materials business for over 40 years. In 2019, it entered the copper foil business for secondary battery anode materials and established itself as a global high value-added materials specialist. In addition to the existing copper foil business, the expansion into next-generation cathode and anode materials fields is expected to create high synergy effects and contribute to reducing dependence on overseas core materials.
Furthermore, by expanding its existing eco-friendly packaging business and developing new materials that decompose in the natural environment, SKC is responding to the rapidly increasing demand for biodegradable bioplastics amid the intensifying plastic waste issue.
The Korea Development Bank plans to actively support the government's carbon neutrality efforts and increase the self-sufficiency rate of essential materials in the rapidly growing battery market through mid- to long-term financial cooperation worth 1.5 trillion KRW over the next five years related to the company's ongoing secondary battery and eco-friendly materials research, development, and investment.
